Michael Maire received the BS degree with honors from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in 2003, and the PhD degree in computer science from the University of California, Berkeley, in 2009. From 2009 to 2014, prior to joining TTIC, he was a postdoctoral scholar in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Caltech.
His research interests are in computer vision and machine learning. His dissertation developed algorithms for contour detection and image segmentation. An ongoing theme of his research is the use of spectral methods to jointly reason about the structure of a visual scene. Applications include figure-ground organization, object detection and segmentation, and multiscale processing. He is also currently interested in building upon image representations learned using sparse coding.
Dr. Maire also has a personally maintained website which can be found at http://www.ttic.edu/maire.
